mindfulness | Caroline Silk https://www.carolinesilk.com The Mindset Nutritionist - helping women lose weight, end their struggles with food without diet and deprivation.. Thu, 08 Oct 2020 23:56:38 +0000 en-AU hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=7.0 https://www.carolinesilk.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/cropped-Balanced-Approach-Option-1-Kaushan-Font-New-32x32.png mindfulness | Caroline Silk https://www.carolinesilk.com 32 32 Is breakfast a must for weight loss? https://www.carolinesilk.com/breakfast-weightloss/ Mon, 04 Jun 2018 03:12:48 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=2064 Is breakfast a must for weight loss?

Two years ago my answer would have been an absolute yes. No argument. End of discussion. And this is exactly what I told my clients to ensure they started the day ‘correctly’… turned on their metabolism, avoided brain fog and broke the fast their body was in overnight.

This is what I believed…

Now?

No breakfast is not a must for weight loss!

And furthermore, breakfast is not a must. Period.

Why the dramatic 180 degree turn?

I’ve read, researched and read some more.  Nutrition science is advancing incredibly fast each and everyday. We are learning so much more about our bodies, our brains, the effect of food, metabolism etc etc. New findings are being announced often because there is so much to discover and we now have the tools and the people to do so.

What I have been saying for quite some time however – definitely more than 2, more like the last 10 years – is that we ALL eat too much. Yes I appreciate this is a generalisation, but I am talking about the general population, not those at the pointy end of the spectrum.

Everything has been super-sized,  but our bodies simply do not need that much food.

You will discover this if you eat mindfully. When you truly eat mindfully you only eat when you’re actually physically hungry, not because the clock tells you its time to eat, or you’re bored, or you’re satisfying a craving or if you’re stuck in the habit rut.

And breakfast is my case in point.

This morning I woke, had a glass of water, went for a long walk and talk with a girlfriend, then by the time I got home and whipped myself up a yummy brunch it was 11am. Yes this is a photo of today’s breakfast.

breakfast, caroline silk I was genuinely hungry.  My tummy was rumbling and my combination of vegetables, healthy fats – avocado, egg and sesame, and healthy proteins – egg and avocado, ensure I’m satisfied and keep me going until late arvo. Then I’ll eat again – depending on what I feel like – probably a small greek yoghurt with some nuts as a snack…or not. I may just wait for dinner.

I will wait and listen to my body and it will happily tell me when I need to refuel…

Do you see how when you choose to eat mindfully you actually end up eating less?

Now I appreciate I’m working from home today so I have the luxury of prepping and eating food when I want to, and you don’t necessarily have this freedom in your workplace. But the rules and regulations in the work environment have changed considerably over the past few years, most are much more relaxed and can accommodate  people eating at times that suit them. Try it you may be pleasantly surprised.

If you want to discover how to eat mindfully you can grab my free Mindful Eating Guide here. And be excited because if you’ve only been eating breakfast because someone like the ‘old’ me had been telling you to…. ignore!  And may your first meal of the day be when you are actually hungry.

Top Tips To Survive The Silly Season https://www.carolinesilk.com/toptipssillyseason/ Thu, 30 Nov 2017 14:00:02 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=2027
Believe it or not today is December 1, 2017.

First official day of our summer, the beginning for many of the Silly Season and the signaling of yet another year coming to its end.

Crazy!

I always find it amusing that there is the pre-christmas surge for catch ups, as though it wont be possible only one month away in January…

So how best do you manage all your lunch, dinner, drinks and party invitations this festive season?

More importantly, how do you survive so that you can come out the other end with your health and waistline intact?

It is timely and of course, following in the true Christmas spirit of giving, to share with you a few strategies that will help both you and your waistline have a lot of fun without the usual fallout!

♥      ALCOHOL: Yes no doubt you will be imbibing more often than not. That’s OK.

Just remember the “one pearl one plain rule”.  For every glass of bubbles, pinot, or vodka that you have, ensure you have one glass of water – make it bubbly to keep the festive mood!

On a side note if you don’t want weight gain from this increase of alcohol intake then I suggest you imbibe in clean spirits. Of course the are still calories in there, but without the added sugar ie vodka with a non sugar mixer like soda water. Just add a squeeze of fresh lime. Yum! And the  bonus – extra water intake.

You know I’m not all about calories (I’m all about mindful eating) but I do have the motto knowledge is power so hence my list below! **

  • 1 vodka & soda: 64 calories
  • 1 glass of white wine: 100 calories
  • 1 glass of champagne/sparkling wine: 100 calories
  • 1 glass of red wine: 120 calories
  • 1 full-strength beer (250ml bottle): 155 calories
  • 1 gin and tonic: 200 calories
  • 1 rum and coke: 248 calories
  • 1 espresso martini: 285 calories (seriously yum but lethal 🙂 !!)

*note we are talking standard size drinks here not the restaurant size ones!

♥    Remember also, that alcohol consumption plays havoc with your willpower, and with each glass you have your, will power retreats out the window, scurries down the street and usually is not found until very late the next day! End result, too much Brie, chocolate fudge and/or Christmas cake is consumed and the double barrelled sugar gun plays havoc on your waistline and scales!

♥    If you know drinking a little too much is your forte, perhaps word up your BFF or partner, to play fun police before it’s too late and you end up crying in your glass of stale bubbles…not a good look! And of course, you can thank them in the morning!

♥    FOOD: If you know the party is a drinks party then there will no doubt be lots of yummy nibbles being handed around, and depending on the venue perhaps some not so healthy…you know the ones… of the deep fried variety?

What ever you do – do not arrive on an empty stomach.

Do not arrive hungry!

Eat something healthy before you go, then you wont be so tempted to consume everything in sight. Stay away from the pastry laden treats and indulge in the protein based – prawns, chicken pieces, salmon, beef bites etc etc.

And it goes without saying veggie sticks are your best friend!

♥   When you make the mindful decision to indulge in something sweet…savour and enjoy it….. but perhaps consider just having two or three  bites and leave the rest – it is those first bites when it tastes the best and your taste buds explode with delight. Bite 7,8,9,10 etc never taste as good and you probably don’t even notice the flavours. Better in the waste than on your waist.

Now is a good time to download my Mindful Eating Guide – its’ free and gives you the exact steps you need to take to add mindful eating into your everyday.

♥   Remember the basic rules –  eat mindfully at all times, breakfast is mandatory, eat when you are hungry and only eat till you are 80% full – or eloquently satisfied – as your grandmother used to say!

Realise that if you have a ‘heavy’ night the night before, then you probably will not be as hungry the next day…pay attention to what your body tells you.

And a great rule to remember… never miss twice.

What does this mean? If you have a big night or big lunch or big day, then don’t do it again at the next meal/day. Go lighter, your body will thank you for it!

And one final tip…

Don’t stress over it!

If you over do it with food and drinks, don’t beat yourself up. Instead look at what was going on, check in to see how you can do it better and do it better next time around.

Life is too short to give yourself a hard time all the time!

Wow I’ve been slack…but according to who? https://www.carolinesilk.com/wow-ive-slack-according/ Wed, 19 Oct 2016 07:00:33 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=1854 caroline silk

I knew that I hadn’t posted for sometime, but I was a little surprised to see that its been 6 weeks!

My intent is to blog weekly, ideally on a Monday, so that I can share my musings of wellness and weight loss with all of those amazing people who care to listen.

But as each week came along, each week I’d think about it and each week I’d do nothing about it.

Was I unmotivated?

Maybe a little…mmm maybe a lot. I think I had a case of the can’t be bothereds.

Interestingly it was not as though I was not doing anything at all when it came to my business. I was sending out my weekly newsletter, posting in my private wellness & weight loss Facebook group (hint hint: come join me here) being active in various social media groups, running one of my 14 day programs. And then of course there is the other half of my life – being a mum, partner, friend, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, aunt, dog walker and employee!

In fact now that I’ve thought about it and listed it above, I have been doing quite a lot…just not blogging.

When I entered this online world as I did in March 2014 with my enrolment into Bschool (online biz school), I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I knew I wanted to join this world, I knew I wanted to reach more people with my wellness message…share my musings, expertise and stuff!

As we all know hindsight is a beautiful thing, or as one of my coach’s liked to call it kindsight.

If I was to start again I would do it all very differently. I would turn it all around, do it in a way that felt good for me, rather than what I thought I should be doing, or what someone else told me to do.

What is the right way for someone does not mean its the right way for you or me. Each person is unique and everyone has their own path to walk.

It’s true in business, it’s true in your wellness journey and it’s so true in the path you choose to walk in life.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

I think we are all guilty of judging ourselves a little harshly.

We have an expectation of where we should be, whether it be in business, in health, in life. There are in many cases, unwritten laws of how we should behave, how we act and where we should be on life’s ladder.

We compare. We feel judged or we pass judgment on others and ourselves.

How do you rate yourself, right now?

Are you a kind or a harsh judge? And if you judge harshly, what or who is your measuring stick?

Be kind to yourself…always. And I’ll be kind to me too!

Spring’s almost sprung! It’s time to detox, reset and renew! https://www.carolinesilk.com/spring-detox-time/ Mon, 22 Aug 2016 03:36:41 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=1812

In my Melbourne town, it does feel like Spring is in the air. It’s almost like every second day the weather shows us a glimpse of what it to come, teasing us, then quickly hides behind another rain cloud!

Spring is time for spring cleaning, and I know I get the bug and in my house a few rooms get a complete and long overdue overhaul!

Have you ever thought that maybe your body could do with the same?

Spring is the time for growth and renewal and your body is energizing itself for the busy summer months to come. It is the perfect time to get rid of the toxins in your body and gain some rejuvenation after the colder months.

There is no hiding that many of us pack on a few kilos/pounds physically and emotionally from the heaviness of winter. Same for me too!  I can feel it right now, smugly sitting on my thighs! So now is the time for a cleanse. I like to call it a Reset.

Let’s Reset our bodies together, remove unwanted toxins and drop some unwanted winter weight that is hanging tightly onto your waistline or my thighs or your but…your back….or…..?

Interestingly many cultures have historically fasted or cleansed during the spring months, and all in radically different fashions. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to a spring cleanse, but it is something everyone can benefit from. You need to choose one that is the best fit for you and your health. Your body may tell you what kind of cleanse it needs and for how long!

Spring as a season supports a Reset, as its the time nature produces many fruits and vegetables that are perfect for a natural detox. This includes berries, sprouts, greens, and bitter roots that also help improve your immunity and fight off toxins and diseases. Your body should crave different foods to prepare for and get in sync with the new season.

You know I’m a big advocate for listening to our bodies and and if you’re feeling vaguely sluggish and lacking in energy, then it’s more than likely that you will benefit from a spring clean!

There are so many benefits to cleansing your body. A Spring detox will help get rid of the toxic waste that has built up in your organs and cells which keep them from doing their job properly. As the snow melts, a detox can help you shed some added weight as well! Other benefits of a cleanse include healthier skin, improved digestive system, MORE ENERGY, improved immune system, clearer thinking, improved movement and flexibility, and the general feeling of renewal and rejuvenation filled with motivation as you feel lighter.

Some other ways to enhance your Spring cleanse is by taking some probiotics, antioxidants, massage therapy, saunas, aromatherapy baths, and exercise (sweat it out!).

Foods, ideally in their organic raw natural form, that you should focus on with a Spring cleanse include:

  • lemons
  • spinach
  • radishes
  • pineapples
  • artichokes
  • green tea
  • green peas
  • coriander
  • celery
  • sesame seeds
  • turmeric
  • cabbage
  • dandelion roots
  • citrus fruits
  • berries
  • asparagus
  • garlic.

During your cleanse, be sure to:

  • Hydrate: As you become more active you will need to drink more water
  • Practice clean eatin
  • Practice mindful eating
  • No caffeine, sugar, or alcohol.
  • Exercise
  • Meditate
  • Try to eliminate animal protein, eggs, wheat, gluten, corn and soy for the duration of your cleanse. These products have allergens, and you want to be as clean as possible.

If this is your first detox, you will need support from a health coach like mmmm me! I can walk you through a whole foods based detox program. Not only is it important to plan your detox, but planning your post-cleanse is just as important. You want to be sure to continue a healthier lifestyle by eating clean, hydrating, and limiting sugar, caffeine and alcohol intake.

And drumroll…….

If you’d like to make your life very easy and have all the work done for you, then I have what you need!!

My Eat Clean Reset Your Body 14 Day Program is ready now and I’d love you to take a look. I know it works as I’ve run this Reset twice now with great results for all of my Resetters. We have great fun along the way, there is a private supportive Facebook forum is available to you and the best thing about it is it all happens in 14 days!!

Surely you can give your body just 14 days of devotion and nourishment?

How to drop those holiday kilos and avoid the blues. https://www.carolinesilk.com/drop-holiday-kilos/ Wed, 06 Jul 2016 05:54:00 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=1692 The Holiday Bluesare not required!

Welcome home, but why the holiday blues?

It is school (and uni.)  holiday time here in Melbourne, we’ve completed  term 2 and it is either a 2/3 week break depending on what school you go to. And these holidays come smack bang in the middle of our winter… as I write it’s 12 degrees and raining.

This type of weather is more conducive to staying in bed or in front of a beautiful fire than heading out doors…. unless your skiing!

Many Melbournites take this time to escape to warmer climes for a week or five!! Yesterday I had a conversation with one such Melbournite who returned from an amazing 6-week holiday… 3 kilos heavier!! She admitted to indulging a little more – a gelato here (when in Rome…) and a pastry there…plus drinks most nights.

And my advice to her was there’s really no need to panic. If her life returns to her normal routine, then the excess wont’ hang around for too long.

Let me explain why.

If you stray off you healthy eating path – have a good splurge for whatever the occasion- holiday, parties, Christmas, Passover, New Year etc – Don’t panic it doesn’t spell disaster.

Like my girlfriend, and I’ve been known to do exactly the same, you may put on a kilo or two but rest assured it will not all be laid down as fat.

In order for me to gain one kilo of fat over, lets say 8 days, I would’ve had to consume an extra 7,700 calories/37,000kjs/. So that means I would’ve consumed an extra 1,100 calories a day which is equal to approximately…….

Ó  4 mars bars

Ó  11  (120ml) glasses of wine

Ó  17 pieces of multi grain bread

Ó  2 Big Macs

Ó  14 pears

She didn’t, I didn’t do that and most people don’t splurge to that extent!

So where does the weight come from – if it’s not all fat what is it?

It is water – believe it or not!!

If you drink or eat more than your body’s immediate needs, some of that excess is converted to glucose and then stored as glycogen (glycogen is carbohydrates as stored by your body). Glycogen is stored in your liver and muscles and remains there as a usable energy source. Glycogen attracts water as part of its storage process – up to three times the amount – I gm of glycogen + 3 gm of water.

So a proportion of the excess is water storage. You will also be retaining excess water due to the type of party foods you have probably been eating – salty chips, restaurant meals etc . Hence your holiday/splurge weight gain.

Perhaps now you know those extra few kilos you bought home with you do not have to be permanent, it’s easier for you to make the necessary changes. And they are:

  • Resuming your normal healthy eating patterns
  • Eat mindfully including lots of vegetables
  • Eat a protein packed breakfast daily
  • Eat only when your hungry
  • Stop when your are “elegantly satisfied” or 80% full
  • Drink more water to help flush
  • Make sure you move your body everyday!

You know all the things I’ve told you before!

Your weight will return to where it was and you can continue on your journey to be slim, fit and healthy!!

If you need a reminder on how to eat mindfully download my simple and easy Mindful Eating Guide here, it explains how to do it step by step, compliments from me to you.

What stops your positive mindset…? https://www.carolinesilk.com/stops-positive-mindset/ Mon, 20 Jun 2016 03:38:51 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=1625 positive mindet

When your positive mindset has gone into hiding…

I work in mindset. I call myself Your Mindset Nutritionist and I’ll happily declare I love working with my clients. Together we achieve great results and one thing I do know, is after their intensive, they’re heads are overflowing with positive thoughts.

Then why oh why I ask myself, do I allow my mind sometimes to be overtaken by a barrage of negative thoughts?

I know crazy right?

Let me explain. I am as a rule a positive person. I believe I operate from a place where my glass is half full… most of the time! So what is it that can stop me (and maybe you) dead in my tracks and send me ten steps backwards, when I know the only way is forward?

I think know it is fear.

It may fear of change.

It may be fear of judgement.

It may be fear of disappointment.

It may be fear of failure.

It may be all of them plus more!

Any or all of the above can stop you (and I) in your tracks and keep you from moving forward, doing the thing you know you need to do!

Let’s look at fear of change for a moment.

I think most of us see change has being a hard slog, involving lots of work. Change provokes fear; as change more often than not takes us out of our comfort zone and into a new place of being. It’s in this new place where we experience and learn new things. This is a good thing. Who says change has to be hard? If we think it will be then it probably will, if we believe it will be easy then guess what? It can be. Continuing to learn and expand ourselves means we continue to grow.

Never stop learning BECAUSE life never stops teaching.

So let’s look at another fear…fear of judgment. What is it that you and I are worried about? Why do we care what other people think? I think all of us deep down ‘like’ to be ‘liked’… I don’t think I’d be overly happy if I knew people thought badly of me.

But as I wrote that last sentence I know that I actually can do nothing about what they think!

Guess what I say to my clients? What other people think of you is none of your business. You and I cannot change the way they think, we can only change how we deal with it. We can not control the stuff that happens outside of us, but we can control how it affects us.

We can choose to let things affect us, and we can choose not to. It’s OUR choice.

So when those negative thoughts begin to dominate that beautiful headspace of yours (and mine) take some time out. Give yourself some space. Breathe deeply and often.

Ask yourself what is it that you really think? Is that negative thought actually true or is it based on some long held belief? Is there an emotion attached to it and if so what identify that emotion is?

That emotion is a signal from your subconscious that it’s time to act. To change, move forward, to learn, to grow. We repeat what we don’t repair.

You and I, are in charge of our minds and therefore our results.

This post has in fact, I now realise,  been my little pep talk – me talking to me – telling me a few things I needed to hear right now. Let the fear go, it’s all in my head, take a deep breath, and another and it’s time to move forward… period.

I hope you’ve enjoyed (and perhaps recognised a bit of you), being inside my head for this little tete a tete!

So I know what I’m doing. Now you need to decide what you want and DO SOMETHING. Even if it’s just a small thing, towards getting it.

If you’d like to do something right now, why not start with learning how to eat mindfully? Research has shown if this is the only thing you change..you can lose weight. Click here to download.

Whether you think can or you can’t, you’re right. https://www.carolinesilk.com/think-can-or-you-cant-youre-right/ Tue, 29 Mar 2016 10:27:38 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=1423
whether-you-think-you-can-or-you-think-you-cant-youre-right

And that my friends is true for weight loss and putting an end to emotional eating…

No doubt you’ve heard before that your thoughts become your words, and your words become your actions.

If you believe you can drop the kgs, then congrats, you’re halfway there. If you think you can’t – because of all sorts of reasons, excuses, stories and lies that go on in your head – then guess what …? It ain’t gonna happen!

Until you think you can, any attempts made will end in frustration and you’re probably feeling more miserable.

If you’ve been a yo-yo dieter then you know that you start out with all the good intentions in the world. This time it’s going to happen…

Over time however, you can’t maintain the momentum of ‘the diet’  – the restriction the deprivation – and more often than not you end up giving up and putting the weight back on… and maybe more some.

Sound familiar?

I’d like you do something for me. Think back for me to that time and check in with yourself. Did you really believe in your heart and in your head that you’d be successful with your diet? Did you make the necessary changes to the way you think and how you act to  make it all happen?

Or perhaps you’re an emotional eater.

You’re stressed from work or family ‘stuff’ and you relieve your stress by heading to the pantry, fridge or cookie jar. Or perhaps you’re hurt by someone’s words and/or actions, or feel sad or lonely and you seek comfort in a box of chocolates or ten oversized chocolate easter bunnies! (it’s that time of year!)

You finish your chocolate frenzy and let me ask you this – has the boredom, frustration, stress, hurt, anger or loneliness gone away? I’m guessing it did for a fleeting moment, but then it came back hitting you like a freight train.  Now what do you do next? You throw the emotion of guilt onto the pile because you’re beating yourself up over your little pig out!

Do you think you can break out of this cycle?

Do you believe you can?

Or do you believe you’re caught in the stuck rut and it’s hopeless, so why bother? Why not just keep eating? It’s all too hard…

You haven’t done it in the past so why on earth is it going to change in the future?

It doesn’t have to be this way.

The way you think plus the way you focus plus the way you act is going to give you the results you want.  Your head has to be in the right place to successfully drop your weight once and for all.

This the reason why I do what I do, I know this is the missing link and I see the positive change in my wonderful clients after we’ve worked together. I’m going to share some of this with you on my new webinar – 7 Steps to Permanent Weight Loss. Hit this link here so you can sign up, and if you can’t be there live there will be a replay…so what have you go to lose… other than those unwanted kgs!

Is there a right way to lose weight? https://www.carolinesilk.com/is-there-a-right-way-to-lose-weight/ Thu, 17 Mar 2016 03:01:41 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=1408 Frustrated-woman-with-scale

Oh if I had the answer to the question, is there a right way to lose weight?, I know I’d be in hot demand!!

The Lancet Medical journal published a report stating global obesity rates were increasing worldwide and Australia, is up there with the best of them.  Like many other western countries, the state of obese and overweight people is blowing out of control.

I would argue blown out of control!

In 2014, 63% of adults were overweight and sadly, I can only suspect that number has risen in the last two years. Do you want to know something sadder? One in four Australian children are overweight. Children… who are meant to be under the protection of their parents… How have we arrived at this place of the “unwell’?

Again sadly there are way too many factors that play a role and I would need a book not a blog post to explore them all. And as I’m yet to have any Hay House publishers knocking down my door, the idea I want to talk to with you about is this…

Is there a right was to lose weight?

If there was ONE right way, we would all know about it, it would be called THE RIGHT DIET, and quite frankly we would not be faced with the health problems that we see today.

Consumers are totally confused as there are so many mixed messages out there and what is considered healthy one day is banned the next. The superfood of last year is out and hale to kale is in! You can low fat, high fat, low carb, no carb, 5:2, high protein, low protein, red meat in, red meat out, fasting, gluten gone, sugar free, grain free, paleo, primal, vegan, fructogenearian, fodmap, dairy free or if you really want food free! And that is just to name a sliver of what is on the diet menu!

So what to do?

Firstly I want you take all your weight loss attempts of the past, thank them for being part of your journey, they have helped shape you (excuse the pun, I want you to smile!) and bring you to exactly where you are now, at this very second here with me!

Please don’t view them as another one of your failed attempts and please don’t beat yourself up either… you are worth so much more than that.

Those diets are not failure, they’re feedback.

Take the time to sit quietly and think about those times, what was working for you and what didn’t, can you see some patterns that repeated themselves?

Do you see that you may have needed support, direction, more in need of meal plans or perhaps you like to find your own way? Your past attempts will reveal a lot about your relationship with food, do see it as healthy relationship or one that frustrates you and makes you feel out of control?

Do you feel as though your weight is letting you down?

Are you questioning why can you be successful in so many other areas of your life, your work, your family, as a partner, sister, mother, aunt, daughter, but you just can’t get your weight and yes your health under control?

Guess what you’re not alone… This is not a problem you need to share on your own, as many amazing women are travelling the same bumpy road.

I believe there is a right way to go about it, and it’s not the RIGHT DIET! Or any other diet for that matter… guess what If you haven’t heard this already, diets don’t work!

First and foremost you need to get your head in right place. The right place for change, the right place so you can refocus, the right place so you have all the tools you need so you can drop the weight easily and I must admit relatively effortlessly.

Imagine that and you can start to see what exciting possibilities there are for you. How you’ll feel, how you’ll look what you’ll hear, or imagine what you’ll do?

I want you to ponder that for me and if you have the urge to start doing something about it right now then why don’t you download my guide teaching you how to eat mindfully.

It’s one of the first steps you can take and research now fully supports mindful eating as a way to freeing yourself from the baggage of weight loss. It’s free – from me to you to say thank you for being here!

I am enough

and I like too how its reads in French

J’en ai assez….

I’ve spent the last 2 days at #yournextchapterlive event in Sydney. It was the coming together of 30 wonderful women 40+ who were thinking of, starting or building their next chapter businesses. Guided by Angela Raspass we delved into all things confidence, clarity and wholehearted marketing.

With so much wisdom and experience in the room it was no surprise that everyone shared resources that could benefit everyone else.

This video is one such resource that was shared. I’ve literally just finished watching it and wanted to share with you…I am enough.

I’ve now googled this amazing women, Marisa Peer,  to learn more as I know that I can incorporate this simple message into the work I do with my wonderful clients.

Take the time to watch this and know that YOU are enough and you can play it forward like me…..Share this blog post with everyone, particularly those who you know may need it most.

What Dr. Google can teach us about weight loss. https://www.carolinesilk.com/what-dr-google-can-teach-about-weight-loss/ Mon, 15 Feb 2016 05:40:45 +0000 http://www.carolinesilk.com/?p=1328 Did you know that when you google “how can I lose weight” 93,800,000 results appear in 0.72 seconds!! Weight loss surprise, surprise is one popular topic!

That is to me damn scary. Where would someone who genuinely, maybe desperately needed to lose weight start? How would they know which website they should click on, which diet might work for them? On the front page of google for this search is an ad from www.dietdoctor.com/how-to-loseweightIt listed the top 18 ways to lose weight . If you click on the site you can then click through to each of the top tips.

  1. Choose a low-carb diet
  2. Eat when hungry
  3. Eat real food
  4. Eat only when hungry
  5. Measure your progress wisely
  6. Be persistent
  7. Women: Avoid fruit
  8. Men: Avoid beer
  9. Avoid artificial sweeteners
  10. Review any medications
  11. Stress less, sleep more
  12. Eat less of dairy products and nuts
  13. Supplement vitamins and minerals
  14. Use intermittent fasting
  15. Exercise smart
  16. Achieve optimal ketosis
  17. Get your hormones checked
  18. Consider weight loss pills / drugs (if desperate)

So I was naturally curious and investigated what they had to say. Most of the time I was nodding in agreement and if someone in need stumbled across this site it could be very helpful. However where it does fail miserably is, it leaves out one very important ingredient to dropping the kilos/pounds.

The NO. 1 way to drop weight is to get your head in the right place. Motivation is usually what drives your weight loss journey.

You’re either motivated to lose the weight because you… … can no longer stand the sight of yourself in the mirror … you’re fed up with being so tired all the time … you’re disorganised and feel out of control … feel heavy and hate the sensation of your body. This type of motivation is when you want to move away from something. You don’t like and I’d go as far as to say can’t stand where you are. You have to do something about it. The other is when you’re motivated to move toward something… … looking and feeling fabulous … having a great time playing with the kids … eating mindfully and you’re in complete control … more focused, organised, get more done! Yes both of these motivational strategies can work…unfortunately and I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but only for a short while. Your subconscious mind is such a powerful tool when it comes to successful weight loss. You need to have it working with you, not against you. Over the coming posts I’ll explore with you all the things you need to know about how to get your mindset in the right place for successful, long term weight loss. If you want to start right now, learning how to eat mindfully is a great place to start. Feel free to download my free training here.
