Eating Green Is Eating Clean

Yes we are now officially in Spring. Spring has sprung, though my partner argues it’s not truly here until September 23, at the time of the spring equinox, but that’s another story!

As you may or may not know, my Eat Clean Reset Your Body 14 day programme is ready for you right now and I’d love you to join in the fun if you feel inclined (dare I say you desperately need?) to give yourself a makeover from the inside out.

Another way you can give yourself this kind of makeover is by including more greens.

I know you know eating  greens are good for you but have you considered including these in your daily diet?

Hungry for Change is a website I admire so I’m very happy to share their fabulous info!

1. Seaweed

eating greenOften overlooked because it is not a land-dweller, seaweed is insanely good for you. While providing a whopping amount of vitamins and minerals, seaweed’s golden ticket is iodine. Iodine is found in very few foods and is essential to a healthy thyroid. With more people avoiding iodised salt for a slew of reasons, mild iodine deficiency is growing more common. When deficient, a person may have difficulty losing weight, feel fatigued, perhaps depressed — experiencing general thyroid malfunction. Whip up a tasty seaweed salad for lunch to keep your thyroid chugging along.

2. Micro greens

Move over regular arugula (commonly called rocket)! Micro greens are simply mini versions of your favourite produce, and man do they pack a punch! As “toddler plants,” they contain more vitamins and flavour than their mature counterparts. There is an endless variety of micro greens from which to choose, from mustard and watercress, to turnip and sunflower — each with a unique, tantalising flavour. As an added bonus, micro greens are crazy easy to grow in your kitchen, and will supply your meals with some tasty, uber healthy green nutrition.

3. Lacinato Kale (aka Tuscan/Dinosaur kale)

This is your grocery-store-kale’s dark, jurassic-looking cousin. With 100 percent of your recommended daily allowance of vitamins A and K, and 88 percent of your vitamin C requirement, the rich compounds of kale have been linked to cancer prevention. It is a little sweeter and nuttier than your regular kale, so go ahead and experiment!

4. Moringa

Recently growing in popularity, moringa is a leaf that is chock-full of goodies. It assists with blood sugar stabilisation, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, is loaded with energising and depression-fighting B vitamins, and containing 90 nutrients that benefit the human body. It is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant-rich. Cook with the oil, or flavour meals with the leaves. Never heard of it? Discover all of the wonders of moringa here.

5. Avocados

OK, so you may be pretty familiar with avocados, but they are so delicious and nutrient-dense that they deserve a mention. They are full of monounsaturated fats, which increase satiety and can assist with weight loss. Avocados are anti-inflammatory, blood sugar regulators, and may even prevent strokes. Buy them once for the high amount of potassium, fibre, B vitamins, and vitamins K and C; keep buying them for their glorious, creamy texture and your newfound obsession with guacamole.

Green foods are good for you, but they don’t have to be boring. Trying a new green every week can keep your meals interesting and your body healthy.

As you add more and more vegetables into your diet you’re actually crowding out other foods that may not be as nutritionally dense as veggies and you have the added bonus of less calories.

Avocados are my absolute favourite, and happy to admit I eat most days! Can you see the benefits of more greens in your diet?

So I was naturally curious and investigated what they had to say. Most of the time I was nodding in agreement and if someone in need stumbled across this site it could be very helpful. However where it does fail miserably is, it leaves out one very important ingredient to dropping the kilos/pounds.

The NO. 1 way to drop weight is to get your head in the right place. Motivation is usually what drives your weight loss journey.

You’re either motivated to lose the weight because you… … can no longer stand the sight of yourself in the mirror … you’re fed up with being so tired all the time … you’re disorganised and feel out of control … feel heavy and hate the sensation of your body. This type of motivation is when you want to move away from something. You don’t like and I’d go as far as to say can’t stand where you are. You have to do something about it. The other is when you’re motivated to move toward something… … looking and feeling fabulous … having a great time playing with the kids … eating mindfully and you’re in complete control … more focused, organised, get more done! Yes both of these motivational strategies can work…unfortunately and I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but only for a short while. Your subconscious mind is such a powerful tool when it comes to successful weight loss. You need to have it working with you, not against you. Over the coming posts I’ll explore with you all the things you need to know about how to get your mindset in the right place for successful, long term weight loss. If you want to start right now, learning how to eat mindfully is a great place to start. Feel free to download my free training here.

The First Step To Permanent Weight Loss

If I could give you a little bit of magic potion that would give you the weight loss you desire,

I would.

In an instant!

And you know there are a lot of people out there who profess to do exactly that.

But I hate to burst your bubble, magic pills and potions, don’t work. Yes, I admit in the short term they may have an effect, but long term…non!

If you want to drop the pounds and kilos permanently then there are many steps that you need to take. Like the Pantene Shampoo TV commercial once said… ‘it won’t happen overnight but it will happen.’

Before I delve deeply into the first and most important step, let me declare here and now….

The 3 requirements for change are:

1 You need to realise that it is a PROBLEM TO YOU

2 You need to realise that it can be DIFFERENT FOR YOU

3 You need to realise that it’s UP TO YOU TO MAKE IT DIFFERENT.

So I can give you all the strategies and tools that you need, but when it comes to actually implementing them into your daily life, it is up to you, no one else, just you.

Mind post for Fb

So are you ready to make that change?

Yes?

O.K.

Drum roll…..

The no. 1 step is…

Get Your Head in the Right Place.

Surprised…?

I cannot stress how important this is and sorry to be the bearer of bad news but without it, permanenet weight loss will elude you.

So many of my clients when meeting with me for the first time explain how they know exactly what they should be doing – what they should be eating and how much exercise they need to do – but they just can’t do it.

They don’t have the motivation, they have no energy, they hestitantly admit their self-esteem is often low. They don’t particularly like themselves, how they look and how they feel.

Not a fabulous place from which to launch yourself into yet another diet.

That’s why you need to accept that diets don’t work, and in fact you’re not on a diet.

Say it now ..out loud… I don’t do diets!

How good did that feel?

I hope it felt fab.

I know once I came to this conclusion some time ago, that I did feel a weight lift off my shoulders (excuse my very bad pun!).

It’s like you’re taking the pressure off, no longer is there this feeling of restriction or deprivation.

Diets in my mind, immediately impose these shackles of restriction and deprivation and thinking about food ALL the time… why would you do that to yourself?

Unshackle yourself once and for all.

So you’re free.

Free to be happy, look, feel and be amazing.

You don’t do diets any more so what are you going to do?

Why not now, right now, make this committment to yourself…

‘I am being the healthiest version of me!’

I know you’re saying.. Caroline, I’m not feeling that way, but hear me out.

You need to start to act this way from this very moment. If you say ‘try’ your subconcious mind will do just that, only ‘try’. If you say but I’m fat or I’m overweight, your subconcious mind is your friend, it will happily keep you fat and overweight because that is what you keep telling it.

Do you understand now why you need to say “I am being the healhtiest version of me” or whatever similar postive words work for you.

You are changing the way you eat and how you move your body …permanently.

This way forward is your new norm.

Getting your head in the right place particularly when you’ve been giving yourself a hard time for a long time is not always easy ..but the good news, it can be done.

If you have access to a good coach then I certainly recommend one. I can vouch that the change you can achieve when working with a coach can be swift and effective.

If you don’t have access then there are techniques that you can begin with it at home.

Firstly you need to understand that what most occupies your mind, whether consciously or unconsciously, tends to turn into your reality and hence your behaviour.

If you continue to allow the negative monkey mind chatter dominate your mind space then it’s more that likely you will stay stuck in a negative place.

Instead when you find yourself thinking negative thoughts…

  • Stop.
  • Take a deep, slow belly breath.
  • Create some space in your head, imagine yourself standing back, outside of your mind and your thoughts.
  • Then reframe. Reframe those thoughts to something positive about you or the situation.

For every negative thought there is a postive one, you just have to look for it.

Imagine a spot of light in front of your negativity, go to that light, go forward and there you’ll find a positive thought to replace it. Change topics in your head if you must, but just change it from the negative to the positive.

We now know that the thoughts we think in our mind set our emotional state,  and the emotional state sets off a physiological response in our body.

Negative thoughts … negative response

Positive thoughts … positive response.

You can do this.

Obviously you need to be more mindful of what you’re saying to yourself but just go through each step, slowly and make the change.

Even if in the beginning you just stop the negative thought from going any further, then you’re one step closer to where you want to be!

As I mentioned earlier, this takes practice and action.

Some positive belief choices for you to accept as part of the new you…the healthier, happier and more amazing you.

1)      Remember change can be fast and easy.

Who says change has to be difficult? This may have been a belief you’ve had until now, but guess what?

You can choose to change quickly if you want to. You can decide to change easily or not.

You have the choice.

When you are truly ready to change it can happen quickly and easily.

2)      There are no problems…only challenges that need solutions.

Constantly remind yourself of this, you’ll be amazed how much easier life becomes. When you look at it like this then it immediately puts you into a more positive state?

Isn’t it amazing and how lucky we are, that our mind has the solution to any challenge that may present itself to you?

3) You are in charge of your mind and therefore your results.

Decide what you want and DO SOMETHING, even if it’s just a small thing, towards getting what you want.

4) You have all the resources you need to bring about change and success.

Accept that it is up to you to bring about the change and success you want – no one else can do it for you. You can no longer blame others or life in general for what you don’t have.

Everyone has the potential to develop and grow.

“Everything I need is within me now”

 Tony Robbins

So you can do anything you set your mind to.

Why not ….
